The hero of Lost Planet 3 is pilot Jim Peyton, who accepted a risky but profitable business offer from the Neo Venus Constructions (NEVEK) company. Having flown from Earth to the planet E.D.N. III, which the company is preparing for colonization, Jim joins his fellow pioneers at the Koronis base. There, he begins to explore the territory and collect samples of thermal energy, which makes up the planet's energy reserves.

With NEVEK's thermal energy reserves running low, the fate of the mission to Koronis depends on whether it will be possible to extract energy from the natural source found.
