Product Description
Svedberg determined the molecular weight of albumin by centrifugation at 298 K. The density of the medium was 998.3 kg/m3, the centrifuge speed was 10,700 rpm. In the first case, crude albumin with a density of 1.3495 g/cm3 was taken. When sedimentation equilibrium was established after 42 hours, the concentrations of the dispersed phase at distances from the rotation axis of 4.38 and 4.33 cm were 0.875 and 0.788%, respectively. The albumin was then purified. Its density became 1.335 g/cm3. In this case, when sedimentation equilibrium was established after 60 h, the concentrations of the dispersed phase at distances of 4.43 and 4.38 cm turned out to be 1.058 and 0.959%, respectively. What is the molecular weight of pure albumin and what was the error in determining its molecular weight in the case of the crude preparation?
