Product Description
15. Indicator paper moistened with a solution of cobalt dichloride can be used to approximately determine the humidity of the air: in a humid room it turns pink, and in a dry room it turns blue. This phenomenon is associated with the possibility of the existence of various isomers of cobalt dichloride hydrate. In a dilute aqueous solution of a pink form, cobalt (II) chloride is a strong electrolyte, the formula unit of which, upon dissociation, forms one cation and two anions. The blue form solution has an electrical conductivity close to zero. Write the coordination formulas for both forms of cobalt chloride, given that the coordination number of cobalt (II) in this case is 6.
